website design : philosophy

It has been said that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. These days, more and more people's first glimpse of a company is via its website. A dated, unprofessional or poorly designed website can make a company look unstable and create a bad impression. But a website busy with too much content, animation or sound can scare people away just as quickly as a poorly designed site. There's a fine line between not enough and too much.

The majority of my clients are small businesses and individual professionals who know that the success of their businesses relies on making a good first impression. The websites I build for them allows them to do that. My website design style places emphasis on clear, concise navigation and presentation of information while creating a beautiful page to look at. I don't use flash animation, sounds or gimmicks. I keep the overall page layout attractive, yet focused on the client's objective. My background in journalism allows me to quickly edit through extraneous content, or write new copy as is needed. I am also able to provide photography services for websites short on visual content.

Some of my clients need a site designed quickly, but want to host it and maintain it themselves. Other clients don't know the first thing about websites, and want me to handle everything. I can provide you with whatever you need, from registering the domain name and setting up your email accounts to designing and hosting your website, to adding database services and shopping cart functionality. My services are flexible to suit the needs of clients working in an environment in which the work day no longer begins at 9am and ends at 5pm.
